Swarming season has definitely beegun

Hello lovely peoples

Well the weather is definitely starting to warm up already and the bees are casting off swarms already. It got up to about 26c yesterday and about 30 today but it was pretty windy both days. Despite this I was keeping an eye on the trees and about 4pm this afternoon on a hunch I went and scoped the tea tree. Lo and behold sitting high in a branch was a swarm about the size of a soccer ball. It was in a little less tangled position though much higher than the previous one we caught in that tree. I immediately went into action gathering equipment, a ladder and letting hubby know I would need his help very shortly. Two of our boys were also handy so they got roped in for parts of the collection as well.

After a bit of trial and error we got it into the swarm catch box and let them settle till after dark. Again we made a few mistakes to begin with but finally figured it out in the end and learnt a few things along the way, so at least the mistakes had a point. Once it was fully dark and they were all in we closed up the front and moved it around the corner to where its new home will be and placed in on the empty hive already there. We opened up the front and will go around in the morning to move them into the other box. It is supposed to be raining but should clear about ten’ish so will hopefully get a chance.  Good thing I happened to have the day booked off already.

Okay pretty late here already and still have a few things to do so will give you all an update tomorrow and video will be up in a few days.
